01 · Overview

The course at a glance

The main build course of the Junior Web AI Engineer path. It takes a student who has completed the two prerequisite quests to a junior web engineer who has built, secured, deployed and open-sourced a real application.

The course runs in a straight line — no side-tracks. One flagship product, The Sports Center, grown across eleven sequential phases after a one-week orientation.

02 · The teaching method

How learning happens

Every chapter follows the same loop — taught in Phase 0 and run for the rest of the course. Two beats to learn, two beats to build. Most chapters take 30–60 minutes; the build chapter that closes each phase runs longer.

BEAT 01

Learn

A short read plus an animated model of the idea. No syntax dumps — you learn what the thing is for.

BEAT 02

Brief

Write the instruction in plain English. Precision of intent is the skill being trained here.

BEAT 03

Review

Read what came back against a checklist. This is where engineers are actually made.

BEAT 04

Tweak

Change one thing yourself, by hand, and watch it move. Ownership beats copy-paste.

03 · Before you start

What you need first

Prerequisite course 1

The JavaScript Quest

The language itself, through eleven mini-projects ending in the Books CRUD API.

Prerequisite course 2

The Git Quest

Version control, mental model first — ten phases from the commit graph to the PR workflow.

This course

The Sports Center build

Static site → interactivity → live data → backend → database → auth → deploy → performance → AI features → capstone.

04 · What gets built

The portfolio

Everything built in this course is real, runnable, and shareable — and it compounds into one flagship artefact.

PHASE 0 · ORIENTATION

Your First Directed Page

The machine set up and the four-beat loop run for real, in about an hour.

THROUGHOUT

A public GitHub profile

Every phase ends in a clean commit, a tagged release, and a PR you self-reviewed.

05 · The endgame

The capstone

The main build track is the reason the rest exists. You walk out not just knowing how to code, but having built and shipped the kind of application that sits behind a real business.

The Sports Center

P1–P3 · FRONTEND

A living website

Semantic, responsive, accessible HTML and CSS, made interactive and fed by live data.

P4–P6 · BACKEND

Its own secured server

An Express API, a Prisma/SQLite database with real relations, and full auth.

P7–P8 · PRODUCTION

Live and fast

Deployed on real URLs with cloud Postgres and a CI/CD pipeline.

P9–P11 · CAPSTONE

Rich, refactored, open

Uploads, realtime, an AI assistant, targeted refactors, tests and docs.

06 · What's taught and where

07 · What you can claim, and when

The skill ladder

What you can honestly say after each stage. Each claim maps to something you've built, run, and can show on a screen.

P0–3

I can build and ship a real front end

A live, responsive, accessible site with real data.

P4–6

I can build a secured backend

An Express API with a database and login.

P7–8

I can run it in production

A public URL, CI/CD, and measured performance.

P9–11

I am a junior full-stack engineer

A tested, documented, open-sourced product.

08 · How long this takes

Time and pacing

Each chapter is roughly 30–60 minutes of focused work; the build chapter that closes each phase runs longer. At a steady few-chapters-a-week pace this course lands around three to four months after the prerequisites.

3–4 mo

Steady pace

A few chapters a week after the prerequisites.

30–60 min

Typical chapter

The build chapter closing each phase runs longer.
